My name is Giulia Loli...

I am an artist, painter, and music producer.
In November 2022 I went to Zanzibar as an artist in residence and decided to stay on to contribute. During my trips to mainland Tanzania, I had the rare privilege of being embedded in the Maasai village of Msaje (Tanga District), where I started teaching art and music to orphans, and reading/writing to adults - working independently and without external support.

Being raised as an immigrant in the U.S. (Coptic-Egyptian/Etruscan-Italian), in a household fiercely proud of its Indigenous cultures, sensitized me to the struggles of all indigenous peoples.

My 11 years of permaculture experience fortifies my conviction that preservation of Indigenous cultures, such as the Maasai, is not just for the sake of objectifying archives, but real-time keys to the survival and flourishing of all life on planet Earth.

LACK OF CLEAN WATER

In the village of Msaje children are dying of malaria for lack of clean water, pregnant women are carrying 40L of dirty puddle water on their heads from distant ravines, beset with UTI, ringworm, and other maladies for lack of clean water.
Families go days without food... Access to water would also allow villagers to grow their own crops.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?

We are raising 6,610 euros all of which go exclusively to buy a generator, pump, cables & rope (including labor and transport) to make an already existing well functional, making clean water accessible to roughly 2000-3000 adults and children.

A 150 m well was dug in 2020, the housing constructed, 5000 L tank installed, fitted with 12 faucets, but the same year the project was abandoned by foreign investors leaving the villagers dangling at the edge of hope.

In particular...

1. Pedrollo Submersible Well Pump 2 HP = 1,560,572 Tanzanian Shillings (604 Euros)
2. Diesel Generator 9000 W = 3,950,425 TZS (1470 EUR)
3. Wire Cable 4mm/ 150 m at 13,000 TZS per meter x 150 = 2,023,060 (783 EUR)
4. Coly Class C Rope = 258,373 TZS (100 EUR)
5. Manila Rope 150 m = 258,373 TZS (100 EUR)
6. Installation cost + 1 month follow-up maintenance/diesel = 6,167,138 TZS (2,295 EUR)
7. Transportation of goods from Dar es Salaam to Msaje Village (260km x 2) = 1,480,477 TZS (573 EUR)
8. Laboratory analysis of water at Arusha Technical College, incl. transport = 537,441 TZS (200 EUR)
9. Pump Test for determining Litres/hour and well water amount = 403,080 TZS (150 EUR)
10. Fencing to protect well from animal contamination, 25-50 meters every direction 510,570 TZS (190 EUR)
11. Commission fee for using Eppela platform = 2,9% of total donations = 145 EUR
                                                           GRAND TOTAL = 17,763,480 TZS (6,610 EUR / 7,092 USD)

  L'ACQUA CAMBIA TUTTO –  UN REGALO PER LA VITA 

Il mio nome è Giulia Loli...


Sono un'artista, pittrice e produttrice musicale.
 Nel novembre 2022 sono andata a Zanzibar come artista in residenza e ho deciso di rimanere per contribuire. Durante i miei viaggi nell'entroterra ho avuto il raro privilegio di vivere nel villaggio Maasai di Msaje (distretto di Tanga), dove ho iniziato a insegnare arte e musica agli orfani e a leggere e scrivere agli adulti - lavorando independentemente, senza appoggi instituzionali.


L'essere cresciuta come immigrata negli Stati Uniti (Copto-Egiziana/Etrusca-Italiana) in una famiglia orgogliosa delle sue radici indigene, mi ha reso fortemente sensibile verso le lotte di tutte le popolazioni indigene. Per questo motivo apro questa raccolta fondi con l'intenzione di dare una mano, al meglio delle mie possibilità, per risolvere un grave problema che affligge questo bellissimo villaggio.
 

MANCANZA DI ACQUA PULITA                                                                                                                      

Nel villaggio di Msaje, la mancanza di acqua pulita porta con sè numerosi problemi: i bambini muoiono di malaria, le donne incinte sono costrette a portare sulla testa 40 litri di acqua sporca proveniente da fonti d'acqua
lontane, la popolazione è afflitta da infezioni del tratto urinario, tigna e altre malattie.
Le famiglie trascorrono giorni senza cibo; l'accesso all'acqua consentirebbe agli abitanti del villaggio di coltivare i propri raccolti.
 

IN COSA CONSISTE IL PROGETTO?  

Stiamo raccogliendo 6610 euro da destinare
all'acquisto di un generatore, una pompa, cavi e corda, inclusi manodopera e trasporto, per rendere funzionale un pozzo già esistente, rendendo l'acqua pulita accessibile a circa 2000-3000 persone.
Nel 2020 è stato scavato un pozzo di 150 m,
costruito l'alloggiamento, installato un serbatoio da 5000 L dotato di 12 rubinetti, ma lo stesso anno il progetto è stato abbandonato dagli investitori
stranieri.
In particolare…

4. Corda Coly Class C = 258,373 TZS (100 EUR)
5. Corda Manila 150 m =258,373 TZS (100 EUR)
6. Costo d'installazione + manutenzione di 1 mese = 6,167,138 TZS (2,295 EUR)
7. Trasporto merce da Dar es Salaam al villaggio di Msaje (260 km x 2) = 1,480,477 TZS (573 EUR)

8. Analisi di acqua al Laboratorio di Arusha Technical College, incl. transport = 537,441 TZS (200 EUR)

9. Test della Pompa per determinare Litres/ora and capacita di acqua in pozzo = 403,080 TZS (150 EUR)

10. Recinto per proteggere dalla contamizione di bestiame, 25-50 metri ogni direzione = 510,570 TZS (190 EUR)
11. Commissione di utilizzo della piattaforma Eppela pari al 2,9% sul totale raccolto = 145 EUR                       

                                                                            GRAND TOTAL = 17,763.480 TZS (6,610 EUR / 7,092 USD)

Grazie a questa esperienza ho avuto l'opportunità di disegnare degli schizzi preparatori degli abitanti del villaggio, per mio progetto multi-media “Africani Antichi Indigeni” che connetta i Maasai con Egitto via il Nile e Hathor, destinati a dipinti, mostre internazionali e libri.
