The aim of the project
Traditionally Amandola has always been active in promoting cultural awareness. Unfortunately, the terrible seismic events that hit the centre of Italy in Aug 2016 has seriously damaged all the citizens meeting places.
The need to bring back to life a fully functioning centre was born from the meetings with the citizens and in particularly, the young people from the famous theatre school
The only one in the Sibillini area that has an appreciation of the activities of music, dance and theatre and which now doesn’t have a place where it can teach the history of theatre to the citizens, because it was seriously damaged.
Unfortunately, this will remain closed for a long time.
Our aim is to bring it back to our town and particularly to the young people in the community a place to gather and meet. This is going to be the historical “Cineteatro Europe” from Amandola that was always been an important place for socialising. This will be used as a place for the theatre, concert and film shows as well as symposium. The building needs to be restored to its original pristine condition, making it secure as well as a modern structure, which will satisfy the different needs and uses of numerous associations present within the region.
Making the historic “Cineteatro” useable again is a unique occasion for our city because it will allow all citizens to have their own fully functional space.

It will restructure the cover of the building; finish all internal and external features, working towards restoring the main stage and the dressing rooms, as well as refurbishing and modernising all electrical systems.
To know Amandola
Situated on the left bank of the River Tenna, on the eastern side of the Monti Sibillini National Park, Amandola is one of the most important centres for historical and cultural resources, environmental values and landscapes. The Old Town, perched on three hills (Marrubbione, Castel Leone and Agello), is composed of civil and religious architecture, grand and opulent historic buildings. It has hidden and charming alleys, reaching 550 meters above sea level, where the tradition dictated that the almond tree became an emblem of the city.
The variety of landscapes that characterise this area is one of the elements that make it unique. Wild mountain ridges. Valleys created by the force of rivers. Small villages strategically positioned. The old town centres, where in a single breath, past and present are combined. Everything reminds us of the historical relationship, across millennia, between man and nature. People who knew how to adapt to each other, drawing two handed a painting of amazing beauty.
Amandola, where nature and culture meet, where you feel the rhythm of time, where you look for those hidden values in the depths of nature and in the stories of men. Numerous are the secrets of Amandola, particularly those of historic, cultural and architectural value, which unfortunately were seriously damaged by the earthquake in 2016. Those affected are: San Vincenzo and Anastasio’s Abby, San Ruffino and Vitale’s Abby, Saint Agostino’s Church, San Bernardino’s Church, San Pietro’s Church and Saint Lorenzo’s Monastery, Saint’ Francis’s Church, Landscape Museum, The Tower of Podestà and the above mentioned “La Fenice” Theatre.
Project created by
A project by the City of Amandola
The local authority (city council) is working diligently during this period of emergency following the earthquake. Its focus is on all the important and strategic measures, as a consequence of the damage suffered by the whole territory.
The aim of this project is to restore, as soon as possible, the place of recreation, meetings, social and cultural aggregation for the citizens of Amandola and the wider communities.
