Monitoring of virtuous ports to realize an online guide

The project is the development of an initiative created in 2015 and presented at EXPO in Milan with COBAT and Legambiente which proposed as its primary objective the preservation of ports' natural environments and the attention in materials recycling, waste collection and energy saving. We intend to monitor about 300 ports of the Mediterranean Sea, and we want assign the MEDITERRANEAN STARS BLUE (from one to five on a basis similar to that of the stars in the Michelin Guide) to the ports particularly virtuous in terms of sustainable development and environmental protection. We want also realize an online guide, called way4port, to discover the ports of the Mediterranean and their territory. The guide will help the sailors, not only to land in the ports more virtuous in terms of environmental sustainability, but also in the most beautiful of the Mediterranean Sea and help them to discover a lot of information about the services of ports and the attractions of the surrounding territory. During 2016 we want value the ports through questionnaires , collection of documentation and visits on site. After that we want submit to a jury made up of our team of scientists "of the Sea" representatives of Legambiente and COBAT the Ports for the allocation of the blue stars and for the assignment of the prize to the most virtuous ports.

How funds will be used

Funding will be used at first to build a Website suitable for main devices

The realization of the online guide is part of a wider project, whose costs will be supported by sponsors and eventually by a crowdfunding campaign, to be launched if the target of 12.000 € will be reached. The wider project consists in monitoring ports with appointment of “Mediterranean Blue Stars” (starting with 300) according to their environmental impact on surrounding territory, to actions taken as to defend and protect environment, to their sustainability as to dangerous materials recycling and to waste waters treatment, to energy saving.

Ports monitoring will be performer via collection and examination of questionnaires and documents delivered to ports themselves. First 100 ports monitored will be visited, in order to create a ranking which will be presented to an enrolled Jury, having the tasks, in a most impartial way, to appoint a prize to the most virtuous ports and to assign the “Mediterranean Blue Stars” to worthy ports, following a criteria as used in Michelin Guide to Restaurants.

Visits and questionnaires will help to create a list of most interesting touristic attractions close to ports. The Guide will help leisure sailors not only to choose the best ports in the Mediterranean Sea, but also to discover a whole lot of information concerning archaeological sites, churches and monuments, agritourism farms, typical bars and restaurants, popular festivals and markets, typical products mostly considering wine and oil.

20% of the funds raise will be donated to voluntary associations working with sailing and the sea

He is particularly sensitive to volunteers and his broadcast Rotte del Mediterraneo gives importance to voluntary associations operating in connection with marine environment.
