“Help” is the cry that comes from the depths of the sea.
It’s the cry of Alberto, Michela, Daniele and Vana Chris.
A desperate, far away cry, which is impossible not to hear.
Impossible not to listen to!
It’s them, with the dreams of those who, in their early thirties, is planning a life yet to be discovered, made of work, commitment, values and the desire for a long-awaited summer vacation to discover the pristine waters, of that deep blue, interrupted by tongues of sand. Where today, together with you, we hope to find them and bring them back home safely.
And it’s for this that you can offer your help.
Just a small gesture and it will be thanks to your hand that, as in one endless embrace, we will be able to find ourselves in a large number and finally shout:
Welcome home guys!
On July 31st Alberto, Michela, Daniele e Valeria leave Milan.
Today, they haven’t returned yet to their messy desks, suspended appointments, pending commitment, promises to keep, people to see again. The holidays are over but they are still in Indonesia. Why?
On August 15th Alberto, Michela and Daniel after a dive got lost in the sea . With them there was another Belgian girl, Vana, met that day.
Their guide brought them back to the surface, but the strong current pushed them too far and the boat wasn’t able to see the point of surfacing. So , he decided to leave them floating and swim toward the boat asking for help .
"Stay together " he said.
Oslan , the divemaster, well, he was found.
And our guys? Vanished. Disappeared in the controversy of his statements, in the silence of the Indonesian authorities, in tourists and fishermen’s antithetical claims. There is something unsaid, especially to mask the truth and it is obvious it is not the common topic of an accident in open water. Oslan lies.
Alberto, Michela and Daniele disappeared 14 days ago and Valeria is still there waiting and looking for them because no trace of them has been found, and the sea, as vast as it may be, doesn’t swallows four individuals, all of them ,leaving no trace. Where are their scuba tanks and that paraphernalia of modern divers?
Analyzing the sea current that’s where they should be, it is in those waters that, for better or for worse, they would have been found and brought home, in Italy, in our country, our land.
And Valeria? She is still there in that archipelago, she’s determined , because they are there but not in the sea. Where? Who did take them away from us?
On August 25th, Italian Foreign Ministry and Indonesia decided to suspend the research, already put off beyond the regular deadline.
Is this the end? NO, IT ISN’T.
Families, friends, colleagues don’t give up, hope and fight. We continue to look for them, we know they are alive and we’ll rummage every grain of those stretches of sand to find them with all our means and with your support. We need you, your help, your sensibility because the research has to continue. Any contribution, even the smallest, it is always the most generous, the most avid of truth.
It’s true that The fate is a well-defined framework, its sediments from the beginning but it is just an outline, no color within, no line. It just delimits the area but not the action. It gives you a frame but it gives the freedom of action, as well. You can rewrite everything, repaint, change horizon and scenarios with tenacity and devotion. We know which tools to use, how to draw again this drawing, how to dilute the colors, how to write another ending. Help us, together we’ll bring them back home.

Imposible no escucharlo!
Bienvenidos a casa chicos!
WHO LAUNCHES THE CAMPAIGN?
The campaign is being launched by the families of Alberto, Michela, Daniele e Vana.
WHO ARE THEY?
ALBERTO MASTROGIUSEPPE, Is a 36 year-old from Milan. Has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Commerce. Passionate about travel, theater and technology. Has 12 years of experience in digital marketing.
MICHELA CARESANI, Is a 33 year-old Psychologist from Milan. She is passionate about travel and has always been engaged in social work. Works with Asperger syndrome children in the Milanese social cooperative Cascina Biancacon.
DANIELE BURESTA, Is a 35 year-old filmmaker from Milan, who has innate talent for video editing. Passionate about martial arts, technology and travel.
VANA VAN PUYVELDE, is a 29 year-old.
WHY ARE THEY IN INDONESIA? HAVE THEY BEEN THERE BEFORE? HOW DID THEY GET THERE? HOW LONG WHERE THEY MEANT TO STAY THERE?
Michela, Alberto and Daniele (with his girlfriend Valeria, who remained that day on the boat and is still in Borneo now) were on vacation in Indonesia (3 weeks). They had already seen the orangutans in Borneo, they had been in Bali and afterwards they were spending the last few days by the sea. It was their first time in Borneo.
Vana joined the group the morning they went diving.
FOR HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN DIVING?
Alberto obtained the PADI Open Water certificate in 2011. Since then he has done some diving in Italy and abroad (Mozambique). He’s a very scrupulous sub, to the point that last June, he went back to his sub instructor for a refresher course in view of the coming holidays.
Vana is an expert diver in possession of both the Advance and the Rescue patent, with several dives and a lot of experience behind her.
Michela and Daniel had just taken the patent, Michela in June and Daniele in May. They are divers with little experience and because of this very cautious, not reckless at all.
THE ARTICLES TALK ABOUT A GUIDE, WHO IS HE? HOW DID THEY MEET HIM? IS HE A PROFESSIONAL?
The four of them approached Derawan Ocean Dive as it organizes excursions and dives. Derawan Ocean Dive organized their dive providing the dive equipment and guide, the divemaster Oslan.
HOW HAS THE SEARCH BEEN HANDLED UNTIL NOW? BY WHOM? WITH WHAT MONEY?
The search went on until August 25 under the supervision and involvement of the Foreign Ministry. Some boats have been deployed and planes scoured the alleged immersion and resurfacing area, retracing routes that correspond with the ocean currents pushing north and south.
Since the beginning, families have also joined private means for greater efficiency and speed in the search.
The private rescue means have been paid with money from the families and with the funds raised through donations to an account opened for this purpose at Banca Generali (the bank where Alberto works).
WHY HAS THE SEARCH STOPPED?
It is international practice to continue searches for a maximum of 7 days from the date of disappearance. Despite this, thanks to the efforts of the Foreign Ministry, which like the family members, is not convinced of the version reported by the guide, the search was extended to last 10 days in total.
The period expired on August 25 and since then the families are “alone” in the search. Nevertheless, an official from the Indonesian’s civil protection remains available to coordinate the private search activities.
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE CAMPAIGN? WHAT IS GOING TO BE PAID WITH THE RAISED MONEY?
The families have decided to start a fundraising campaign because from now on, all search attempts and actions taken will be fully covered by them.
To give just a few examples:
1 helicopter costs € 17,000 / day
1 search boat costs around € 5,000 / day
Unlikely one helicopter and one ship can be effective and particularly timely as it should be.
There are countless uninhabited islands yet to be explored where currents could have carried them and where they found shelter from the waves and water. The diving suit must have protected them the cold, the rain quench their thirst, but for sure they will be weak and struggling and praying while waiting to be rescued.
We should also consider the many transfers, accommodation, etc. of the people involved in the search. Unfortunately it’s a vast search area, extremely wide and varied. The Indonesian archipelago has more than 17,000 islands of which only around 7,000 are inhabited.
The only interest of the families is to find them and bring the four of them back home. Should they be found (as we all hope for) before the end of this campaign or immediately after, the collected funds will be returned to the respective donors.
