"Dire, Fare e...Giocare con il Design”
The idea of these labs, developed during Venice Design Week, that will take place in Venice from the 3rd to the 10th of October, arises from the experience of Chiara Muzio.
Graduated in Cultural Heritage, her passions are arts, architecture and design. In these fields, she has developed her education and professional experiences, working both as designer and as educator for the educational department of important museums and cultural associations. At the moment, she is involved in the project “Progettazione e Consulenza Didattica dell’arte e Valorizzazione dei Beni Culturali”, planning and guiding labs and educational tours for national galleries, exhibitions and museums.
Her creative spirit leads her to believe in and develop practically didactics for arts based on practical experience and on interaction between children and the artistic object. According to Chiara, design is more and more conceived by the general audience as something beyond everyday life, populated by strange things, whose real usefulness and functionality are difficult to capture and understand. What our lab wants to demonstrate is that design is something near to everyday life aspects, as its main function is creating objects whose usefulness is expressed also aesthetically.
We have decided to involve children because we think they are perfect in order to demonstrate that creativity, invention and fantasy do not derive from detailed studies, but on the contrary these elements are opened to everyone and come from basic essential needs, as children have not mental structures and prejudices typical of adults.
The lab will enable children from 4 to 12 years to become closer to the world of design. Thanks to expert educators, children will have the opportunity to express their creativity and fantasy, putting them into practice through different techniques and materials: they will be involved in a real design lab, an occasion to create and shape their own project. The lab aims at developing observation, creativity, manual skills and at sensitizing children on the theme of recycle thanks to the use of recycled materials. The goal is re-thinking and re-designing daily objects.
The lab is divided in 4 phases with precise objectives:
OBSERVATION: the introduction, during which children become closer to the concept of design thanks to activities and observation games with particular design objects.
KNOWLEDGE: children, thanks to our operators, can acquire all the useful tools to understand what design is.
CREATION: children will become real designers: a theme is chosen and participants are involved in a design lab. They realize their own project, using different materials – recycled materials, too - in a creative way, following the techniques explained by our educators.
AWARENESS: at the end, children will have their own project and thanks to this creative experience they will be sensitizing on the theme of recycle and know what managing a project means.
Thanks to your support, we will be able to bring this project into schools, apart from during the Venice Design Week labs: in this way, we can involve more and more children, giving them the opportunity to take part in this creative experience, that will be an occasion to learn in a practical way, different from traditional teaching.
