We are the DuoKeira, a classical music group made by pianists Michela Chiara Borghese and Sabrina De Carlo.
The crowd-funding project we are starting is aimed at realizing a short music festival for piano duo at the Teatro di Villa Torlonia in Rome. In our city the musical offer is wide and varied, but a music festival for piano duo as we imagine it, does not exist: one that is welcoming in its simplicity, while at the same time intended for an audience in search of novelty in classical music.
The festival consists of three events – all concerts of great communicative energy - featuring classic, modern and contemporary composers. Original pieces for piano duet and pieces transcribed for this medium will be performed. We define them events and not only concerts because in each of them the music will be accompanied by other media art and short explanatory talk. Each of the three will be forged in a different character: the second being devised to interest children.
The three concerts will be held in the beautiful space of the theatre of Villa Torlonia on February 27, 28, and on March 1st 2015. The project is supported by the City of Rome as part of the re-launching of the recently restored theater, which is located inside one of the most recent aristocratic mansions Roman. It features a fine variety of decorative, sometimes quaint, motives, which will surprise the visitor when the trompe-l’oeil and “pompei” red colors, dominant in the hallways, its statues of musicians and playwriters, will come alive with the music and the vibrations that we will produce all together. For further information on the theatre: http://www.casadeiteatri.roma.it/teatro-di-villa-torlonia/.
More in detail, in the first of the three concerts two pianists (DuoKeira) will play on one single piano; the second concert will feature two pianos and percussions; In the third the two pianos will play with an instrumental ensemble. One of the programs includes the performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of Animals, accompanied by illustrations originally created for this event by visual artist Alessandra Le Caselle, and animated by videomaker Valerio Carosi.
Through this festival, we wish to engage, provoke, enlighten, and above all we want to share the joy and the deep feelings that music can arouse. For us classical music is, and remains, a powerful force, a symbol of unparalleled beauty, which we strive to keep alive.
We are trying to transform these three days into an intense journey through different dimensions of communication. In every one of the three different shows, the audience will witness the human and artistic harmony of which we are perpetually in search, and become part of the complex balance which starts inside our duo, and extends to other musicians.
The sum collected will cover the costs of graphic design and publicity, the rent ad tuning of pianos, the compensation of the musician, graphic artist and video-maker.
Participating to this crowd-funding, therefore, means more than financing three events to which you wish to attend. It involves sharing the deep design that animates them. It’s our cultural and emotional utopia and you're all invited to join in.
About the DuoKeira ...
We met six years ago and we decided to create a Duo which could correspond to our projects and purposes. The name we chose – DuoKeira – draws from the greek word kheir which means “hand”, and sounds like Chiron, the mythical centaur expert in arts and sciences, a figure which, being half man half animal, combines the attributes of reason with the intuitive properties of nature.
Ours is an happy fusion of two complex singularities, diverse for training and temperament. Our centaur Duo blends naturally the rigor of chamber music execution with other different artistic stimuli which can enhance the radical synesthetic potential of music. Many exhibitions have confirmed the validity of this cultural and artistic project. The responses we have received to our performances in various cities of Italy, in Paris, Rouen, Oslo, Boston, Providence, and in New York (Carnegie Hall), reinforce our commitment to a renewal of the performance practice of chamber music while respecting and cultivating the established classical tradition. The first CD we have recorded Giochi di piano a quattro mani, and has been broadcasted among others by Vatican Radio and Radio TRE, attests these accomplishments, while a second one ison its way.

Our passion is classical music and we love to do shows in which the music dialogues with other forms of art: we played with actors, dancers , illustrators and video maker . Despite our large concert experience , both in Italy and abroad , we want to experiment continuously , and to test us with new goals
