The project is about the making of the Web Map of Dolomites for all hikers and lovers of the outdoors. The work is in progress and you can already see the first result online.
Such kind of work is quite new for the web, for subject, extension and characteristics of the map, and is useful for all hikers that want to visit Dolomites, for programming a hike, finding their way on the mountains and sharing afterwards their adventures.
Who I am
My name is Marco Barbieri, I’m a professional cartographer, web designer and a hiker.
www.webmapp.it is the website where you can find my latest works. The portal contains web maps for hiking and mountain-biking, all available for free on your PC and smartphone or tablet. Here below you can find the maps that already are published:

All the maps have been made thanks to the availability of row cartographic open-data, released by governative and no-profit organizations, and thanks to my work of cartographer and web designer.
Why should you support me
In order to finish the Web Map of Dolomites, there is still much work to do. I need your support to cover the costs of the map making, principally related to the work of searching, collecting and inserting the geographic names on the map. The perks feature a new awesome panoramic map of Dolomites. The funds will also cover the costs of production, printing and expedition of these maps.
Here below are the features that the finished Web Map of Dolomites will have:
+ the map will be available for free on the web
+the area of the map will cover all Dolomites groups and nearby areas
+the map will have various zoom levels, which will give a clear view of all Dolomites as a whole, at lower zoom levels, and views with great detail, at higher zoom levels
+the map will have a great cartographic quality and will be continuously updated, enriched and improved in time
the map will contain useful informations for hikers, such as hiking trails, main mountain huts and refuges, a rich toponymy related to physical and natural features of the land, a clear and precise representation of land forms
+the map will be available on smartphones and tablets

Further developments of the project
The project that we propose won't end after the making and publishing on the web of the Map of Dolomites.
The map itself will represent the start basis for the making of several different cartographic mashups: other then maps dedicated to various outdoors activities, we are also thinking about scientific, naturalistic and cultural cartographic web portals.
In order to facilitate this process and boost the spread of the map, the Map of Dolomites will be distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution - Non Commercial - Share Alike 4.0 International.
