SUPPORTING ORGANIZATION:

The Association de Solidarité pour le Développement des Villages du Cameroun (ASDEVICAM) is a no-profit, apolitical organization. It is registered with the Bureau des Associations et des Partis Politiques of the Prefecture of Monatélé. It is the italian partner of the Association "Per Dare Vita – Iniziative Sociali Missionarie di Volontariato Onlus"

OBJECTIVE:

The construction of a roost for 1000 chickens with the aim to create job opportunities for local young people who increasingly leave their villages and move to large cities, deceiving to find a better quality of life.

RATIONALE:

The emigration of young people from the rural areas to the cities is an attempt to escape poverty. We are convinced that it is essential to make African people responsible of their own development .This can be done through education and by enabling them to value and manage the priceless resources of their continent; only in this way they can really become the creators of their own destiny. With this project, ASDEVICAM aims at providing professional and technical training to enable young people the possibility to implement contemporary farming techniques. After 1 year training, participants will be grouped up in a farmers cooperative, which will be managed by themselves directly, with the aim of having a regular income that can satisfy their fundamental needs.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:

The project consists of a poultry farm for 1000 chickens every two months, in 6 cycles, in other words 6000 chickens per year. These will be sold in the international market. 50% of the income generated by each cycle will go to ASDEVICAM 's account and will be re-invested to expand and improve the project. The other 50% will be deposited into the young people's back account (30% for their retribution and 20% for the development of their own farmer cooperative).

The centre, after training young people of d’Elig-Mvomo, will continue the same activity in other villages. The poultry farm will be own by ASVEDICAM and will be guided by a monthly paid veterinary. The first year would be financially sustained by the funding raised for the project.

COSTS:

The overall cost for the project is 5506 euros and includes:

1) the purchase of equipment and materials for the construction and the maintenance of the poultry farm (2581 euros)

2) the purchase of the chicks and veterinary products (1129 euros)

3) administrative expenses, including the veterinary 's salary (1533 euros)

4) unforeseen expenditures (1129 euros)
