The future: a team game!

In Tanzania, orphan children at Malaika shelter home have been dreaming about a small field to play soccer with children of their age from a nearby village

What

Building a small soccer field for the children from the Moshono village, in Tanzania, not far from Mount Kilimanjaro: this initiative originated at the Malaika shelter-home, where orphan kids or children from families in difficulty live together and are cared for and looked after. The soccer field will also be enjoyed by children from the nearby village. All children will play together trained by a good coach who will help them grow up healthy and strong and convey to them the value of team spirit.

Why

To help children grow though team game as an education tool. To teach them that the performance of a single individual can contribute towards the final result for the whole team, to learn to reach out to those who fall down, to be able to accept help from others... to understand that a shirt of a different colour deserves the very same respect as one’s own.

Why in Africa of all places

It is important that children have a place to meet and play together wherever they live, but this becomes essential in countries like Tanzania, where children live on the street. Tanzania is a wonderful West-African country, where unfortunately :

- there is a high mortality rate among pregnant women

- There are 16 million children, 1 million of which are orphan because they have lost their parents to HIV, 7.000 in Arusha city only

- the number of children living on the street is constantly on the rise.

Our dream

A clay field with “real” goals and nets and a protection fence. Uniforms for 30 children (shorts, shirts and shoes) and a good coach for the whole year

We believe in it…?

You can help us build their future.
“So that today’s children can become tomorrow’s grown-ups, Africa’s future”

Malaika

Malaika Children’s Friends is a non-profit organization set up by a group of Italian friends to support the children from Malaika, the Arusha-based (Tanzania) shelter home that was founded and managed by two European ladies living locally, Francesca Aimone and Jutta Kassam. Malaika currently houses about fifteen children, either orphan or from families in difficulty. Malaika provides them with healthy food, healthcare, a good-level education but - most of all - true family love.
