We are Daniela Pasquali and Matteo Zenatti: since one year we conduct a shared reading project on the YouTube channel "Visibilibri" (http://www.youtube.com/user/VisibiLibri), a project involving enthusiasts from all over Italy to fully read literary works and show them via video.
From this experience, we had the idea to export the will that exists in people to read and have something to do with books outside of the web, creating a real reading group, following others existing groups in Italy. We realized that it is far from granted that everyone knows the WG. We felt the need to attract the country's population to an evening of explanation, without being too boring, trying to involv as much as possible those who do not normally participate in conferences or debates.
To launch the group, we decided to organize an event in Friday, November 18th, 2011, in which explaining what constitutes a Reading Group. The evening will be divided into several steps:presentation of Visibilibri’s work on Youtube introduction of the project about the Reading Group intervention of an operator already active in conducting existing reading groups the fun part: reading and music.
Visibilibri readers who will intervene (they are going to come from various parts of Italy, a team of seven readers have already signed up to our call) will read, with a preparation on the afternoon of 18th. The book will be 'If on a winter’s night a traveler', by Italo Calvino, that seems to be an excellent text to tell the beautiful and the ugly of reading, its processes, methods, beauty. The readings will be interspersed with music per- formed by guitarist David Recchia, and by readers who want to participate in singing. Then we’ll collect subscriptions for the RG, and will schedule the date of the first meeting.
With Eppela we intend to collect the necessary funds to finance the event. We decided to pay the expenses of our volunteer readers, because many of them will be arriving from far away, and would have to bear high costs. In addition, the event, while being organized in conjunction with the Department of Culture of San Giovanni Lupatoto and the Association LiberIdea, will be handled by us, including advertising costs, taxes and all that will be necessary for the performance.
And so we ask for a help to the people of internet to promote the success of the evening, support- ing this event that brings fans across Italy, to witness their enthusiasm and the beauty of reading, so to give birth to something that will be located in a specific place, but will receive support from anywhere through the web.
