What is it about?
Imagine visiting the mosaics of the Basilica of San Vitale at night while listening to the notes of the pipe organ. This is a breathtaking experience, which you can only have in Ravenna. Since August 5, 1961, all the greatest concert organists in the world have performed at San Vitale, creating an unparalleled series. The oldest cultural event of the City of Ravenna is also one of the most prestigious and long-lived festivals in the world. Art, culture and entertainment will combine in six summer concerts, sure to please (also live streaming!). Unfortunately, the institutional public funding we receive is not enough to cover the costs of presenting these events…Can you help us? August 2021 will be the 60th anniversary of the festival and we would like to celebrate it with a program that lives up to the tradition. From July 26th to August 31st, we will present six concerts by international artists, with particular attention to music in the work of Dante Alighieri and his sweet illuminated guide: Beatrice. The supreme poet, in fact, rests in Ravenna and 2021 is the 700th anniversary of his death. The King of Instruments in collaboration with the King of Poets! Many themes, deep cultural roots and a very long tradition of harmony and beauty. Friends, we await your contribution!
How funds will be used
The funds we raise will allow us to:
-bear the costs of renting the Basilica of San Vitale for our concerts
– tune and clean the old but prestigious Mascioni organ of the Basilica; regular maintenance essential for the performance of concerts
– pay concert artists who will perform
– pay for playbills, the SIAE, posters, printed programs and all necessary promotion
– take care of the technical aspects of live streaming - an indispensable tool in this time of Covid 19 - to reach our audience at the 4 corners of the globe!!
– reimburse all of our volunteers the expenses they incur for distributing promotional material, preparing the basilica for the audience, welcoming the public, printing and distributing posters and audience programs, monitor the live stream and much more.
Who's behind the project?
Ravenna musician Elena Sartori founded the Association AMICI DELL’ORGANO DI SAN VITALE in 2002. The purpose of this Association is the preservation of the ancient Ravenna organ festival and also of the Mascioni pipe organ present in the Basilica. Elena Sartori is convinced that – with its 60 years of uninterrupted tradition – the International Organ Festival constitutes an Italian cultural heritage to be protected and encouraged. For now, unfortunately, the Italian institutions have not been very sympathetic: it takes at least 20,000 euros to produce a quality Festival and all that Elena Sartori and her association can count on, so far, is an annual contribution of about 7,000 euros from the Municipality of Ravenna. Project created by
60th San Vitale International Organ Music Festival - Ravenna
Since 2002 we have been taking care of the oldest music festival in the city of Ravenna: long lines of Italian and foreign spectators wait outside the gates of the Basilica to be able to enter and enjoy the incomparable suggestion of organ music under the mosaics of Ravenna. Last year, our live streaming edition recorded over 10,000 spectators!
To carry out the August 2021 edition - which will be the sixtieth - we need at least 2,000 euros: who wants to help us?
