Where we are

We’ve been extremely fortunate: we were born here on “Colli di Poianis”, which their rich woodlands, vineyards, perfumes and wild herbs. This is where our lives, our wines and our history all began. Home to Schioppettino, Prepotto is the grand cru area in the heart of Friuli Colli Orientali DOC that stretches along the border between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia. We are fully committed not only to re-introducing native varieties that were abandoned in the past but also to preserving the land and its heritage in the original state. Indeed, the rolling hill slopes, lush green paths and thriving vineyards, as a whole, have created an ecologically balanced ecosystem where biodiversity can thrive. The heart and soul of these vineyards translate into our wines. Cultural heritage and a true sense of place, in a bottle!

The cellar

The winery is where modern research blends with the old traditional practices handed down from father to son by Paolino. We have great respect for the natural development of our wines, for the rhythms of the seasons and their conditions, such as rain, temperature, wind, and finally for the lunar phases. The philosophy we follow in our vineyard management entails pruning according to lunar phases, ridging the topsoil around the vines, and growing grass between the rows.  In the winery, cutting edge winemaking methods and technology complements tradition without ever losing sight of the beliefs and values handed down from father to son.

The wine selected for Crowdwine: Schioppettino di Prepotto

The past teaches us that Schioppettino is the Friuli Venezia Giulia’s most prestigious red-skinned grape variety. The vine is documented from the Middle Ages and has been grown at Prepotto for centuries, surviving the tragic events that have affected this borderland area where Italian, German and Slav traditions come together. Schioppettino di Prepotto was classified as a cru in 2008. Fruity and extremely elegant wine; deep ruby red in colour with purple tints. The nose displays fruity aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant and bramble that blend perfectly with the spicy notes of green peppercorn. The mouthfeel is velvety, fresh, enveloping and well balanced. Ageing it develops an elegant bouquet of autumn leaves and spices.

Project created by

Colli di Poianis

Colli di Poianis sees its origins in the early 1900s. Gabriele Marinig, third generation, together with his wife Maura manages the company. Gabriele's father, Paolino, was chasing a dream, to reunite the land at the origin of his family. He has done so for seventy-seven years. Gabriele made it in 1991: because even dreams are handed down from father to son. So today in Colli di Poianis every blade of grass has the name of the past. The rediscovery and protection of native vines saw the company awarded in 1981 with the prestigious "Risit d'Aur", for having created one of the first vineyards of Schioppettino aiming at its enhancement and communication.
