Who we are
Calabrian viticulture has been deeply rooted in the territory since time immemorial.
Here we are in the heart of that area so suited for the cultivation of vines that the Greeks called it Enotria. In these lands, the Scilanga family has been producing wine since 1701.
Today the winemakers Francesco and Vincenzo, direct descendants, have made an important choice.
They produce the extraordinary native Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco vines in a completely natural way, according to a philosophy of life and production that is becoming increasingly popular. Indigenous yeasts, very few sulphites, reduced filtrations are used. In short, the most natural transformation of the grape possible. It is therefore an authentically artisanal production, developed in about 9 hectares of vineyards, with a production limited to about 30,000 bottles per year, all of absolute quality.
A unique story
Vincenzo Scilanga was born in Cirò in 1701, which gave rise to a family of winemakers that still today their descendants hand down the history and tradition. Today Vincenzo and Francesco Scilanga decide to assert their origins and their culture passed down from father Quintino, materializing love for their work and their land with one goal, to produce natural wines, with indigenous yeasts, use of low-sulfur thus reflecting the distinctive characteristics unique presenting Gaglioppo.
The ancient Greeks raised the vine to tree, with planting pattern at 1m x 1m and this kind of farming is still present in the vineyards of Ciro even if in a small way and with the rows slightly wider. The vineyard area of Ciro is made for ‘Gaglioppo 80% and 20% by Greek White both native varieties. At one time there were many others, now in recovery, including:Magliocco canino, Lacrima, Prunesta, Santa Severina, Colorino and others.
The wines: Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore - Cirò Rosso
Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore: it is an elegant wine, reminiscent of Piedmontese nebbiolo in some situations. It comes from pure Gaglioppo grapes from the best vineyards of the Cirò Marina area. It portrays its land, returning it without filters. So attractive because so spontaneous.
Cirò Rosso: it comes from pure Gaglioppo grapes from the vineyards overlooking the Ionian Sea. The nose is elegant, notes of cherries, citrus with spicy nuances. Taste is juicy, with firm and rampant tannins, but smooth, intense and fruity returns, with a nice persistent finish.

The nose is a fine wine, with notes of red fruit, citrus and spices. An intense taste, with tannins present, but not invasive and with a nice long and slightly bitter finish but still with an inviting freshness to the next sip.

PAIRING: Perfect with local cold cuts and salami, it does not disdain meat sauces and medium-aged cheeses.
Cirò Rosso 2017
An elegant wine from pure Gaglioppo grapes from the vineyards overlooking the Ionian Sea.
The harvest takes place manually in September, with careful sorting of the bunches, which are brought to the cellar for the start of spontaneous fermentation, in steel containers. The maceration lasts 5 days, while the refinement lasts for about 12 months, always in steel tanks.
CLASSIFICATION: Red wine
WINE STYLE: Medium body, intense, elegant.
PAIRING: perfect with local cured meats and salami, it does not disdain meat sauces and medium-aged cheeses.
