Casato Prime Donne
Donatella Cinelli Colombini welcomes you to the Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, in the land of Brunello.
Donatella's ancestors already owned this estate at the end of the sixteenth century which is now open to the public for visits and stays in which to share the experience of the most beautiful countryside in the world. The desire to keep the doors open to winelovers has always been a fundamental theme for us so much that Donatella was the founder of the Wine Tourism Movement in 1993 inventing the events of Open Cellars and Goblets of Stars.
Donatella's property is divided into Casato Prime Donne, the first Italian winery managed entirely by women that has achieved international success thanks to the quality of its Brunellos, and Fattoria del Colle, a treasure trove of memories where tourists can live by staying in apartments and rooms immersed in the noble history of the Tuscan countryside in the midst of unspoiled and organically cultivated nature.
Now Donatella is the national president of the Women of Wine Association and also of the Orcia Wine Consortium.
The story of Donatella
The wines selected for Crowdwine: Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne is produced only in the best vintages. It is a small selection of 6,000 bottles destined for high-end restaurants and wine bars around the world. It is the first Brunello produced and designed for women. In fact, the winery that produces it, the Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino, is the first in Italy with a staff of women only, including the winemaker. It is also the first long-aging red wine that is followed, from birth to bottling, by a panel of 4 expert international tasters: a wine shop, a sommelier and two Master of Wine: Astrid Schwarz, Daniela Scrobogna, Rosemary George MW to whom Swedish Madeleine Stenwreth MW is about to join. They are the ones who choose the wine among the different Sangiovese Brunello vineyards, they decide the type of oak barrel and finally the blend between the wine with several wooden barrels.
Obviously, Brunello Prime Donne is also very popular with men and has excellent ratings in the main international press, but it is also a flag for women's wine. In fact, in 1998 when Donatella Cinelli Colombini inaugurated the "Prime Donne project" and the role of the fairer sex in winemaking was very small, this wine was the first to celebrate the importance of female taste.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Progetto Prime Donne 2015
A bright ruby red color. The slow rotation of the wine in the glass highlights its structure and richness. The scent is complex, deep, fine, full of suggestions that begin with the small ripe red fruits, continue with the undergrowth, exotic fruit and the most sensual spices. The taste is distinguished by the perfect harmony of its components: the solid structure, the fullness of the fruit, the silky tannins, the satisfying amplitude of the flavor that elegantly elongates in a very pleasant and persistent finish.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Progetto Prime Donne 2016
In spring 2016 the vines sprouted 15 days in advance but the harvest took place in early October, according to the traditional calendar. The accumulation of grape sugars went on more slowly than the maturation of the polyphenols and everything happened gradually thanks to a beautiful sunny day and cold nights. At the time of the harvest the ripening was perfect both in the skin and in the pulp of the grapes. After its period in tonneaux of 5 and 7 hectoliters of French oak, the maturation ended in traditional 15-40 hl Slavonian oak barrels. Now it is "resting" in the bottle.CLASSIFICATION: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
