Where we are
We are in Jazzo di Stefano, an adelfiese district, within a park that the Nicassio family has dedicated to the cultivation of wine grapes, still alive and thriving today. Cantina Giara was born from the meeting of these lands with the Nicassio family.
How we make our wines
We are a small family-run winery linked to the production and enhancement of both Primitivo and Verdeca, white Malvasia, Greco, Fiano and wild Moscatello. With the idea of producing a more unique and unique wine, very different from that obtained with traditional methods, they chose a natural winemaking that requires skill, patience, knowledge and hard physical work. Cantina Giara has decided to embrace the principles of biodynamic agriculture to obtain a wine that is good in taste and beneficial for health and the environment. Sipping a glass of natural wine you can immediately notice its unique and unrepeatable flavor, superior to that of wines obtained with traditional methods. Absolute wholesomeness is added to the goodness for those who drink it, as this type of wine does not contain any type of chemical. Attention to health also translates into respect for the environment, given that natural wine is produced only on soil that has been cultivated in biodynamic for many years.
Located at 231 meters above sea level, the vineyards are located on calcareous-clayey soils, are tent-shaped (a 60-year-old plant) and high espalier, with very low yields (from 30 to 40 quintals per hectare).
The daily temperature variations between day and night give the grapes an important aromatic heritage.
The wines selected for Crowdwine
Melech, from the Hebrew "king", is considered, in fact, the King of wines of the GIARA winery. This wine has its roots in ancient grapes from vines grown with natural methods in the Jazzo di Stefano area on clayey soils. It is a wine macerated on its skins; unfiltered and uncleared.
A summer evening, the chatter with friends, the sound of cicadas in the background, the glasses on the table and a bottle of Cicaleccio nearby. The name of this white wine takes up the onomatopoeic sound of cicadas, which accompanies the summer days, but also alludes to the chatter of the people. Produced from grapes grown by the Cantina GIARA farm, the Cicaleccio is not filtered, it is not clarified and it is not barricaded.
An intense topaz color at sight, a scent of flint and fruit macerated on the nose, a fresh taste with saffron notes and tannic note at the end associated with licorice root.
