If you'd hear about Riot Academy for the first time, probably, you'd think that it's just a gym. A place where people go to practice sport or physical activity, keep fit and take care about their mental and physical health.
And, to be honest, you would be right, because Riot is a bit of all of this.
But for the dreamers that came up with this idea and nurture it with daily discussions and work, turning it into reality with our own sweat and passion, it would not be enough to define what it really represents.
Riot, above everything, is a concept.
An idea of sport and fitness that wants to be revolutionary, trendbreaking and innovative, always aiming to excellence, not meaning that we push forward the superhumans and olympic heroes leaving the rest behind. On the contrary, we use the spirit and characteristics of every individual to give the chance to everyone to express their full potential, strengthening team spirit and solidarity.
Riot is like our home, a safe place, a family where you can find people that share the same passions and discover new ones, a strong group with whom you can also laugh and talk about different topics, even outside the regular gym hours.
Riot means values: respect for others and for self; solidarity; environmental sustainability; friendship; fun; brotherhood/sisterhood; active participation; improvement; health.
It deeply represents us and all the people that are part of it and contribute, with their amazing and unusual fusion of diversity, to make it real as it is and keep it up. Because, primarily, our Academy is made by people and not by gym gears, and they are the only thing that really make its spirit really unique.
What do we do?
We practice, promote, breath sport.
The activities we propose are constantly updated, aiming to keep them modern, follow the needs and passions of our members, and giving the best service possible, providing constant support and motivation to every person that is part of our group.
We aim to excellence: the best gym gear that we always keep with great care, cleanliness, skillful instructors that follow all our activities and seminars held by national and international champions, such as the world famous BJJ black belt from Brazil Michelle Nicolini, or the italian gymnastics national athlete Nicola Bartolini.
We also like to organize sport events and projects with social impact, going beyond a gym's regular life cycle.
- We hosted a young Brazilian Jiu Jitsu talent from San Paolo surroundings, our friend Leo, that grew up in a disadvantaged environment and we supported him to let him go out from his country for the first time in his life, hosting him in our city in Italy, Cagliari. He trained with our team and we welcome him like a member of our family, making him learn about our island, Sardinia, and its culture, and learning from him a massive amount of new things as well.
- We started teaching BJJ in the schools, using it as a metaphor to fight against bullyism and a tool to improve self-esteem.
Moreover, we particularly like to apply some of the values that we put at the core of our practice, such as environmental sustainability and solidarity.
We are working to have a plastic-free environment, giving to our athletes the possibility to use a water dispenser to fill their water tanks with just a symbolic contribution. In our events we use as much as possible recyclable materials, and we strive to educate our associates and members to respect little yet important tips, in order to avoid waste of materials, water and electricity.
Besides these, we have a lot of new ideas to work on sport for athletes with disabilities, to use it as a tool for growth and learning, to support physical and mental health of everyone, without any barriers because of sex, gender, nationality, ethicity and social, cultural and economic background.
Why are we asking for your support?
The current situation made it difficult for anyone to carry on an entrepreneurial project and get ready to start back without difficulties, especially for someone like us which is running a not-for-profit sport association that opened just few months ago managing to already enter in the heart of a lot of people.
We don't lack enthusiasm and motivation at all, but a little push to start back would help us to go forward without facing obstacles.
Therefore, we would like to ask for a little hand, because, even with the current forced lockdown, we still have to pay for monthly bills and expenses, and your support would give us the chance to do it and guarantee, as soon as we will be allowed to do it, that we can start back our activity with the same quality if not more.
Simply, in order to keep with our activities. To nurture our passions. To make that idea grow, offering to an increasing number of people that opportunity, and by that improving the complicated area of the city where, knowing it well, we decided to start our activity even against all odds.
To promote new projects, since we really have a lot in our mind.
To allow our family to grow, and maybe to pass on to you so much enthusiasm for our activities that you'd like to give us the chance to welcome you among us.
Because, you know, if you have read all of this up to here, probably you are Riot people like us.
Don't hesitate to contact us for any doubt you might have regarding our initiatives: we will be more than happy to give you all possible information and let you be part of our great project
