What is it about?
My name is Bernardo Pio Buonaura and I am both a computer analyst and also an art lover.
My passion for art emerged many years ago thanks to my father in law, a great expert and critic of modern art. He initiated me into the art world and sparked a love and knowledge of both established and emerging artists.
My thirst for knowledge lead me to research artists and performers online but I soon realised that this was not straightforward and it often proved difficult to find them.
As a result, three and half years ago, I decided to make what would have been the first version of SoulsFace: a web based platform on which artists of all kinds could meet, get to know and contact eachother.
At the time, my twin sister also suffered a negative experience of the music world after being beaten into second place during a singing competition by another artist who was “well connected” with the judges. Sadly, her disappointment had such a big impact on her confidence that she gave up on her dream to become a professional singer.
We created SoulsFace in an attempt to ensure that there would be equal opportunities for all artists to showcase their talent. We adopted an algorithm that allowed each post to be given an equal status and would be shown by date of publication rather than solely in terms of popularity. It is not based on the virality of the post, as happens with other social media, but through an algortimo based on categories and interests. In fact, as soon as you sign up and publish your first performance, it is immediately shown to users who follow that category / interest.
This proved to be a great personal success and we received 1332 subscribing artists in the first year! Not bad considering that we were developing it as a part time job and without advertising.
As a result of this success and encouraged by this show of interest, about 18 months ago, I decided to take the step of investing my savings into the redesign of the website and into creating an App. I was not able to do it all by myself so I contracted a professional agency specialising in new startups (Next Adv). One of the partners of Next Adv, Alessandro Lambiase, was very impressed by the idea and helped to make the whole project more professional and easily accessible.
After a further two months of analysis and hard work we “delivered” SoulsFace v2.0 :
much more dedicated to art performance, more user friendly and also offering the opportunity to set financial deals.

How funds will be used
Both the App and the platform are already up and running.
Currently we have more than 4,000 users and several clients on pro-upgrade for the cost of 79 euro/year. Our growth is steady at a rate of about 50 new users a week.
A large amout of App-users continue to choose us and our retention rate is quite high (30% according to “Sticky”)
We are keen to expand still further and help even more talented artists and performers achieve their true potential. In order to gain more visibility, we plan to set up a competition with broad reaching access which offers rewards and prizes – this would be in the form of a talent show in which the public and the artists could vote the best dancer, juggler, magician, singer...etc.
Another new idea that we want to introduce is a section specifically dedicated to organisers and managers which facilitates meeting between managers and artists. This would also provide a platform where event-organisers would be able to promote their gigs, tag the artist/performer to an event and sell the tickets on the same site at a competitive price.
The application is ready. It is an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that has several services already active. You can find it already on the Android and IOS stores. It is obvious that at every step forward there is a risk, but that is also where the magic lies. Being able to understand and intervene in time to resolve any problems is part of everyone's life. The experience helped me to understand that it is better to stop and think when you encounter an obstacle because even if today you want to ignore it sooner or later it returns and it will be more difficult to overcome it. So awareness is the key to overcoming and facing risks, and I really believe I have it.
Who's behind the project?
Because the world needs art, today more than ever.
Because art can raise awareness and move the masses ...
Because in a world where robots will increasingly replace humans, the creativity of our soul will always remain the only thing that distinguishes ...and that will set us free.
We allow each of us to share our Talent without filters, without barriers at the beginning and to be part of the largest community of performers, where they can find and find themselves among similar souls.
