What is it about?
TWM Factory is the cultural association that officially obtained the space of Rome Smistamento from the Italian Railroad Network (RFI), thanks to a redevelopment project proposal for its 300 sqm of former offices. Our dream is to set up a creative pole, available to its neighborhood and the city, where to develop relationships and synergies. A heterogeneous, engaging and productive reality that will be constantly evolving and involving.
We imagine a space, open to everyone, where the best energies of the territory can be conveyed. Where ideas are supported and given the strength to come true. Through this project, TWM Factory will ultimately be a tangible reality. It will set the example of a hub where creators specialized in different fields can interact and create valuable projects; a place where talent is spread, where it is possible to create and share ideas, as well as time and skills.
WHAT WE WILL DO
The activities that TWM Factory would like to bring to Rome Smistamento reflect the different backgrounds of the young people belonging to it. Topics like Architecture, Design, Photography, Music, Fashion, Cinema, Technology and Innovation, will be explored through workshops, formation and updating courses, coworking areas, a meeting room and a photographic studio.
Together we can assure that Rome Smistamento becomes a showcase for Millennial talent, where it is possible to empower young people and spread their skills towards the professional environment. In addition to the educational activities proposed by TWM Factory, Rome Smistamento aims at becoming a reality in the local context, thanks to exhibitions, conferences dedicated to emerging artists and events aimed at disseminating Italian creative ferment.
How funds will be used
Rome Smistamento is our white canvas. We will use the funds from this campaign to realize our idea of creative hub, starting from basic interventions such as painting the walls together and providing for electricity and Internet, to the renewal of green spaces and the payment of administrative taxes.
Although we will re-use some of the old desks left by RFI, we will need your help to buy furniture that will be used in Smistamento's everyday life, starting from chairs, stationery, small appliances, working desks, projectors, and everything we need to make Rome Smistamento functional and creative. Part of the funds earned will also be used to make and deliver the rewards.
The best way to ensure that we will become part of the local social context, and bring about our positive contribution, is to recreate a sense of community. We will do so by joining the enthusiasm of the youngsters with the wisdom of the elderlies. Therefore, part of the funds will be devoted to communication material (flyers, posters, digital advertising) needed to inform the neighborhood and the surrounding areas about the existence and opening of this new creative pole. Additionally, we will provide funds and work force to reopen the small garden in front of the building, to make it accessible to the citizens in the neighbourhood.
Who's behind the project?
TWM Factory is a group of young people aged 18-26, engaged in discovering, highlighting and enhancing young talents, by supporting and disseminating their ideas. Our aim is to enhance Italian innovation and quality. Since 2013, we have been working on the online magazine The Walkman, a platform representing a showcase of Made-in-Italy talent. We managed to reach more than 70,000 users per month. The Walkman Magazine is the mean to communicate and share what inspires us.
In the past few years, we did not limit to web contents, but we also tried to bring our attention to creativity in the real world. This is the case for the series of workshops “Know How”, realized at VIGAMUS Videogame Museum, with the support of the Association Vita Romana and the patronage of the Culture and Tourism Department of the Municipality of Rome. Another example is the collaboration with the web radio of the University LUISS Guido Carli, with the program “Press Play”.
This year TWM Factory has created, with the support of Gebart Spa, the “Giovani Creativi” (Young Creative Talents) project, which aimed at rewarding Italian creativity in several artistic fields. Thirteen Italian artists under the age of 30 were selected, reflecting creativity and art in all of their forms. They were portrayed in some of the most famous museums in Rome, showing how Millennials entered in the context of contemporary art.
We managed to realize many projects without any budget or space available. We counted only on our commitment and ideas, and we achieved great results. Now we need your help to take off and to make Smistamento a reality for the territory.
Help us to give creativity the space it deserves!
Project created by
TWM Factory is made up of people under 30, with different backgrounds and heterogeneous perspectives, making projects and carrying out initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between creative passions and professional environments. We support the creativity of emerging artists by organising cultural events, masterclasses, workshops and by publishing materials through the magazine The WalkMan — a showcase for talents with the mission of discovering Made-in-Italy excellences.
