eBook @ the bookshop
A book, an agenda, an eBook, an object you can love and collect.
This is an eBook you can buy at the bookshop, store wherever you want and give to somebody special with a nice bow on it. This book can be read on eReader but at the same time it keeps its unique paper beauty. It is an agenda with a story, a cover and a back cover.
Two stories within the same book: the story you can write and the story your eBook agenda contains.
They are small, manageable, customized for every book (with a cover, a back cover, an interview to the author, illustrations and extra contents) and they allow the reader to access the eBook through a link and QRcode. It is the easiest way to buy eBooks directly from the bookshop and give them to somebody with the object that contains them.
The project “eBook @ the bookshop” was developed to bring eBooks to those readers who think “I could read digital books but…”. When we started, almost 3 years ago, one of our first goals was to create a bridge between eBooks and printed books. This idea lead us to develop PendolariQR, free tales with the same size as business cards. However, we weren’t fully satisfied yet. We wanted to sell our eBooks at bookshops so that booksellers could fall in love with them and could share this love with customers, readers could buy them as a present and everybody would read them. This is the idea our project started from and very soon, thanks to your help and the support of Eppela and Nastro Azzurro, this dream could come true.
Why do we believe in this project
In Italy we are still plodding along with eBooks despite all our efforts. Magnificent speeches, declarations of war, official laws and prices are not enough to convince people to buy them. At the end of the year the result is always the same. We can’t get to 10% of the market, we always obtain less.
We love books, we work as publishers because of our passion. However, we read many eBooks simply because they are easy to take everywhere, we don’t run the risk of killing someone with our books on the subway or on the bus, our editor (called “The Mole” due to his low vision) can even read without his glasses. That’s why we decided to take a notebook, a fake microphone (in order not to be insulted, or worse, beaten to death) and we asked anybody we could whether the read eBooks and, if not, why.
We gathered many points of view (as you can see we are quite determined) and we analysed them. The first thing we noticed was that the number of those who said they would never leave their book for a digital support wasn’t much higher than that of those who told us: “I don’t have time to listen to you” or “It’s none of your business”.
There were other reasons behind their idea. Some of them can easily be understood, some others require bigger considerations. They varied from the lack of something tangible (something to give as a present, to add to the bookcase, to spend money for – “How could I waste my money for something I don’t even touch? Do I look so stupid?”) to the absence of a bookseller (who gives advice, helps, directs, psychoanalyzes), to price (it’s too risky to use our credit card on the internet, the price is too high considering we are buying something “unworldly”).
What all those people needed was “an eBook at their bookshop”. But now – thanks to your help – they will have it.
Who's behind the project?
CasaSirio is a POP publishing company because this is what we do: high quality narrative. Our attention to detail (from editing to cover creation, from draft writing to the selection of printing paper) leads to something contemporary, usable and fascinating both to expert readers and to beginners
How are we going to use the funds?
We are talking about traditional fifty/fifty (and we don’t mean the film with Joseph Gordon-Levitt – which btw is worth watching – nor the TV series or the web game). The first half will be used to complete and develop the eBook software (which is now usable but aesthetically not completely satisfying) while the other half will be necessary to produce the first “eBooks @ the bookshop”.
