What is it about?
For 5 years now the gates of the Florence Jewish Community's garden have opened up for Balagan Cafe, on Thursdays summer nisghts. We have hosted international shows, conversations, exhibitions, and a taste of Jewish cuisine. All with the aim of contributing to the society of today and tomorrow, based on different cultures' mutual respect and knowledge: a society based on the value of diffference.
Balagan is not a commercial space. It doesn't make money: on the contrary, it takes money to keep it open. We want to keep the entrance free: to keep the prices of all the food and dirnks as low as possible. All while keeping up the great level of culture we have been producing. Up to now, we have made it with the generous contribution of some private and public donors, and by the effort of the Jewish Community itself. But if we don't make Balagan self-sustaining, the Community won't be able to continue spending much longer, and we will be forced to close down.
This is project belongs to the Jewish Community and to all who believe in a future of dialogue and trust between the different cultures present in our city. Thanks to many initiatives llike this one, Florence is a brilliant example of coexistence in a world that seems to be going in the opposite direction. Please consider helping us out.
How funds will be used
All of us, including the artistic direction, are volunteers - so we offer our work for free. But artists, workers who help set up the garden and all personnel is a cost. We know we will be able to pen next June 22nd, but if we manage to go on depends on you. On your will to help us.
