Thank you all!
We are really moved by your generosity
and 30.000 times thank you will never be enough to express our gratitude and our amazement. We'd have never expected such solidarity: we thought we would only be able to contribute simbollically to furnishing Fiastra's new school, instead we are now in the conditions to think we could take care of all the furnishment the school needs and thus release resources that could be spent on many other serious situations our valley is going through.
There are still some days left before the campaign ends so why should we stop now? Why shouldn't we try to reach 40.000€ that would allow us to provide the school with a dining hall and equipment for the gym?
So help us with this! It only takes one last effort and you'll give Fiastra not only a complete and beautiful school, as well as safe, but you'll also give hope to our community and the children and you'll teach us all that solidarity moves mountains more than an earthquake!
Now we thank you 10.000 times!
Thanks to your touching generosity, in 5 days we collected more than twice what we estimated. Therefore we can start dreaming big, dreaming about a modern, safe and high-tech school!
The things we need are still many, there's a canteen to be furnished, a gym to be set up, and then equipment for outdoor games, computer equipment and high-tech gadgets...
So, trusting in the help and support you showed us, this time we relaunch our campaign at 20.000€. In fact, with 10.000€ more, we'll be able to buy tables and chairs for the canteen, 1 interactive whiteboard (IWB), 2 color laser printers and 15 tablets for the students.
We believe in the possibility to achieve this goal. Help us dream big!
After desks and chairs, that thanks to you we are now able to buy for our school, we still need some more things to furnish our classrooms at best! Thus, we ask you to help us achieve the next goal of 10.000€. With 5000€ more we’ll be able to buy 5 teacher desks, 5 teacher chairs, 5 blackboards, 5 lockers to keep the classroom tidy and clean and 2 big boxes on wheels to be filled with toys for the little ones.
Of course we’ll need many other things but, for now, if we achieve the 10.000€ goal the school rooms will be almost completely furnished and our dream of a brand-new school for Fiastra will come closer to reality. And that would be all thanks to your support! Donate and share, help us reach everyone!
What is it about?
Fiastra is a small village of about 600 people. It is located in the heart of the Monti Sibillini National Park, an area, in Central Italy, that has recently been shocked by many serious earthquakes. The population, whose majority was evacuated on the accommodation facilities and hotels of the coast, lives with the uncertainty of their immediate future: almost all the houses were damaged, some areas were completely destroyed and all the public facilities were condemned.
Our school will be demolished due to the serious damages it has suffered from earthquakes. It is thus impossible for us to rescue the school supplies. For the next months, pupils and students of our nursery, primary and secondary school will have to attend school somewhere else, in a place they are not acquainted with, far from their fellow students and friends, far from their home.
The school is the symbol of our small community that is now scattered all over a hundred kilometers of coastline, waiting for the emergency to end to come back to the place they have always lived in and loved. It is hoped that the deadline for the entire community to return to their homes and for the school to be rehoused will be the Spring Term.
How funds will be used
With 5000 € we’ll be able to provide the school with 50 wooden chairs and 50 desks for the rooms of our new school. We’ll also buy furniture for the nursery school, 2 small tables for 8, 1 round table where pupils will play and knead the dough, 15 small and colored chairs for our baby-students and 2 big boxes on wheels to be filled with toys and books!
Of course we’ll also need teacher desks, blackboards, wardrobes and bookcases, chairs for the diner, coat raks, shelves… But for now we ask you to help us achieve the 5000€ goal and start furnishing our soon-to-be school, then we hope we can start to take care of the rest thanks to your precious help and support!
How the project came into being
It was some hours after the third and strongest earthquake of October the 30th – whose magnitude was comparable only to that of 1980 Irpinia’s earthquake which caused more than 2.000 deads, over 7.000 injured and around 250.000 homless – that we realized nothing was ever going to be like it was before and our first thought was for the school of our small community. From the very first moment it was clear to us all that, without a school, our valley could not begin the process of rebuilding the community.
We created an association to support our project: this is the first but not the last concrete goal we intend to pursue as an association.
We start with the school for it is the cornerstone that holds our community together, a place of growth and development of human values. Without a school there is no future for us, the children of today are the adults of tomorrow and they represent the hope of our community that wants to be back together.
Our ambitious goal is that of bringing all the children back to school by the beginning of the Spring Term: bringing the kids back means also bringing their families back home, to our charming valley, and giving them all the opportunity to build, brick by brick, the foundations of their future.
Who's behind the project
This project is promoted by the cultural association RicostruiAMO Fiastra (Let’s rebuild Fiastra) together with the City Council that will handle the fund.
The association aims at helping the population and the local institutions to face the emergency situation that October 2016’s quake created. The association undertakes to pursue social, civil and cultural solidarity to safeguard the people of this valley struck by the earthquake, to obtain the full recognition of their rights, to proceed, in a transparent and efficient way, with the global, active and total reconstruction of those areas strongly damaged and to ward off the risk of dismemberment and social and cultural dissolution of the community.
More generally, the association seeks to imagine, promote and support all the possible initiatives and activities of the territory, both economic, touristic, cultural, social, of solidarity or that can create new work. In this perspective, the association calls for the maximum participation possible, so as to avail itself of the services of all those that care for the rebirth and development of our valley.
In order to thank you for your donation which will enable Fiastra to be regenerated starting with the children and their school, we will reward you with the best we can offer! Our new school will be decorated with the name of all the contributors written on the wall, you will be thanked publicly on the socials. Postcards written by our pupils and students will be sent to you. If you wish to visit us, we will be glad to offer you a taste of our best local culinary produce, starting with breakfast. In addition you may like to enjoy a paddle in a canoe on our beautiful lake. If you prefer, however, to have a walk around our mountains, an expert guide will lead you through to the discovery of the most beautiful spots of the Monti Sibillini National Park. At the end of your trip you’ll be provided with refreshments consisting of our very best local produce or, if you prefer, you can enjoy a meal in one of our many exquisite restaurants!
Big gestures must be remembered forever and for those a plaque with your name engraved on it will be placed at the entrance of our soon-to-be new school.
You just have to decide what suits you best!
Finally we wish to underline that each reward we offer will be donated by freelance professionals and local retail outlets. All donations received will be located solely to the reinstatement of Fiastra’s new school.
Project created by
The project has been thought, drawn up and put together by the founder members of the association RicostruiAMO Fiastra, on behalf of the City Council. But nothing could have been possible without the precious help of Alessandro Petracci and Cristiano Erbacci who freely offered their skills and knowledge and took care of the graphics, video and logo of our campaign.
